Decorating a Gingerbread House

Tips and techniques to decorate your gingerbread house with creativity and style.

How to do it

  1. Use thick royal icing made with egg whites to attach decorations like candies and chocolate.
  2. Make a piping bag by cutting a small hole in the corner of a small plastic bag or use a piping bag for more precision.
  3. Create icicles by drawing lines of icing along the roof edges and letting them drip slightly for a natural effect.
  4. Use small candies like Smarties, M&Ms, or silver dragees to create patterns on walls and roof.
  5. Draw windows, doors, and other details with icing for a personal touch.
  6. Gelatin sheets work well for transparent windows.
  7. For interior lighting, place an electric tea light inside the house.
  8. For a snowy look, sprinkle powdered sugar over the house with a fine sieve once the icing has dried.
